Methodology guide -- CN 7228 (other alloy bars and rods)
CN 7228 covers machined and tool-steel alloy bars. Like other alloy bars, BF-BOF dominated globally; per-tonne CBAM cost slightly higher than plain carbon steel due to alloy content.
Step 1 -- request verified data with grade-specific emissions. Tool steel grades (M2, D2, A2) have very different chemistry than free-cutting steel -- emissions per tonne can differ by 10-20%.
Step 2 -- handle finishing operations. Cold-drawing, peeling, grinding add minor emissions to the upstream bar number. Already captured in supplier scope when finishing is on-site.
